A dog bite can cause serious and irreparable damage, especially if it is not treated immediately. If you are the victim of an attack by a canine the American Veterinary Medical Association (“AVMA”) suggests that you seek medical treatment immediately, after which you should contact the appropriate authorities (e.g., animal control) and tell them everything you know about the dog including its owner’s name, if known, the color and size of the dog and the location of the attack.
The AVMA reports that there are around 800,000 dog attacks that require medical treatment in the US per year. These attacks are significantly higher for children than adults.
